JOHANNESBURG - The N12 near Nasrec in the south of Johannesburg has been closed after a shoot-out.
A gun battle ensued between police and suspected armed robbers.
Three suspects were shot and killed in the process, while one was left injured.
"It is reported that, the police operationalised information about suspects who had just robbed a courier vehicle in Tokoza," SAPS said in a statement.
"The suspects driving a silver Corolla vehicle were spotted at Kliprivier road joining N12 road towards Soweto when the police tried to stop them. They sped off, leading to a high-speed chase and shootout. The suspect's vehicle came to a standstill on the N12 road between Xavier and the Soweto off-ramp. Three of the suspects were declared dead and one was injured. The police found two firearms and some of the suspected stolen stock."
