JOHANNESBURG - The SIU has frozen over R20-million worth of assets linked to irregular contracts at Transnet.
They were awarded between 2019 and 2022 and are worth a combined R89-million.
The frozen assets include luxury vehicles and high-value properties in Johannesburg and Vanderbijlpark.
SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed that the investigation was sparked by whistleblowers who came forward.

“They indicated that there were things that weren’t going well and they gave us the evidence,” Kganyago said.
“That’s what led us to apply for a proclamation from the president, which was then granted to allow us to look into a variety of issues at Transnet.”
The SIU says this asset freeze is just one part of a broader investigation.
“We are doing a lot of investigation in Transnet,” Kganyago added. “As part of that, we came across these contracts.”
