JOHANNESBURG - The awarding of the national lottery and sport pools licence to Sizekhaya Holdings has raised concerns over transparency and potential conflicts of interest involving the National Lottery Commission.
Some opposition parties say Trade, Industry and Competition Minister, Parks Tau's responses to Parliamentary questions on the matter have lacked clarity.
Sizekhaya replaces Ithuba Holdings, which has managed the Lottery since 2015.
Ithuba’s current licence expires at the end of May.
A total of eight companies were in the running for the lucrative multi-billion-rand deal.
