Transport minister says daily festive season road fatalities too high

JOHANNESBURG - An average of about 32 people have lost their lives daily this festive season.

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy announced this while releasing the department's mid-festive season preliminary road safety report.

Creecy says the daily fatalities are far too high.

"The average road fatalities per day is still much, much too high," Creecy said.

"We are looking at, on average, 32 fatalities every single day since the start of the festive season. That is 32 people every day who have lost their lives, 32 families every day who have been bereaved, 32 communities who have lost somebody that they care about every single day since the festive season began."
