JOHANNESBURG - The commission of inquiry into alleged political interference in TRC cases has been urged to summon former presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma to testify.
This despite the pair mounting a legal challenge seeking the recusal of commission chairperson, retired Justice Sisi Khampepe.
Lukhanyo Calata, son of one of the Cradock 4 activists murdered in 1985, says both former heads of state must account.
Calata is the second witness to testify before the inquiry.
He told the inquiry that former Deputy Minister of Justice, John Jeffery told him that a political decision had been taken not to pursue certain apartheid-era prosecutions.
Calata is calling for Mbeki and Zuma to be called to explain alleged political interference during their administrations, which allegedly stalled the prosecution of perpetrators.
Calata is expected to continue his testimony when the inquiry resumes on Monday.
