JOHANNESBURG – The Department of Basic Education has announced the leak of seven matric exam papers.
The breach from exam scripts from Gauteng was discovered by markers according to Minister Siviwe Gwarube.
The provincial department was notified, who subsequently notified the national department resulting in immediate investigations.
According to Gwarube the English Home Language was the initial paper to be discovered after several matriculants in Tshwane were initially interviewed.

Further investigation found that a total of 26 students were compromised. Additionally, it came to light that seven schools in Tshwane were found to have been affected after the Maths and Physics papers were also found to have been leaked.
Gwarube said it was apparent that the leak came from the department, discovering a parent of one of the matriculants to be a DBE employee.
The Minister says a task team including Umalusi, Universities South Africa, SAQA and a private forensic investigator.
Gwarube says the matter has also been reported to the police.
Marking for the National Senior Certificate is scheduled to conclude on Saturday 13 December.
