Two arrested as police, SANDF raid houses in Mitchells Plain

CAPE TOWN – South African National Defence Force troops have hit the ground running in Cape Town.

The troops together with police have locked down parts of the gang infested Mitchells Plain and are conducting raids at properties in the area.

Two men have been arrested after they were found in possession of heroin. The SANDF members began their deployment in the province on Wednesday.

Ian Cameron, Chairperson of the Poice Portfolio Committee said the raids were intelligence driven.

“What must be emphasised is that so far, from all indications the raids have been intelligence driven. All the addresses that have been visited so far are hugely problematic in the area. So far, there is nothing to criticise apart from the other issues on the broader deployment," Cameron said.
