PRETORIA - Two government officials in the Mpumalanga office of the premier have been arrested in connection with the murder of forensic investigator Mabidi Mashaba.
Mashaba was killed in September 2023 while he travelling from Mpumalanga to Pretoria. His vehicle was sprayed with over 20 bullets. He later died in hospital.
His work laptop and documents were taken during the hit.
One of the suspects identified as Eckson Mkondo appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court this week. He was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The case was postponed to 4 June for a formal bail application.

His co-accused is expected to make a first appearance in the same court on Friday facing similar charges.
The pair were arrested by Tshwane police’s organised crime unit. Police said the arrests reflect their commitment to bringing perpetrators of serious and organised crime to justice.
Acting police commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane applauded the investigating team for their dedication and commitment in ensuring that those allegedly responsible for the murder are brought to book.
“The arrest of the two suspects demonstrates SAPS’ unwavering commitment to ensuring that no stone is left unturned in the investigation of serious and organised crimes, particularly cases involving the targeted killing of individuals serving the interests of justice and accountability within government institutions,” said Dimpane.
