CAPE TOWN - The University of Cape Town is standing by its decision to evict students from Philip Kgosana residence just three days before Christmas.
The Western Cape High Court granted the eviction order in August.
UCT says the students were unregistered and had occupied the building illegally for two to three years.
But four of the 13 are postgraduates who say they were wrongfully forced out.
They say they were not supposed to be included with the illegal occupiers.
The SRC says it's working to assist the displaced students.
In a written statement, UCT claims it offered the students adequate time to depart and struck an agreement that they would leave on 20 December.
It claims it acknowledges their situation, but there was no other way to handle the matter of this building.
