Umalusi flags crimes against matriculants despite smooth exams

PRETORIA - Umalusi has confirmed that despite the smooth running of the national examination process, some Matriculants became victims of social ills -- including rape and robbery -- during the exam period.

Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi strongly condemned the criminal acts.

He was giving a pronouncement on the 2025 matric results for both public and private schools on Friday.

The briefing comes just days before the official release of results next week.

During the briefing, Rakometsi urged community members and relevant authorities to support all victims of such barbaric acts in whatever way possible.

Despite these incidents, he praised the overall examination process.

According to Rakometsi were no risk factors that materially affected the process.

He said challenges such as community protests, load reduction and inclement weather did not disrupt the smooth running of the national examinations.
