UPDATE: ANC Eastern Cape elective congress called off

KUGOMPO CITY - The ANC's Eastern Cape elective conference has once again been put on hold amid legal wrangles.

While plans were in motion to proceed with the conference earlier on Friday, by midday, it emerged the provincial leadership faced threats of a contempt of court application after proceeding with delegate registration and preparations for the conference in KuGompo City.

On Thursday, the high court interdicted the conference and ruled that the leadership of the party needs to attend to some irregularities and allegations raised by the disgruntled members from Joe Gqabi District.

The members said processes leading up to the conference were not done in accordance with the party's constitution and guidelines.

Eastern Cape ANC chairperson Oscar Mabuyane, who is running for a third term as the party's leader in the province, said they will appeal the ruling.

Mabuyane maintained that all necessary requirements and guidelines were followed.
