UPDATE: Case against 'Cat' Matlala, co-accused postponed to Wednesday

JOHANNESBURG - The case against alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala has been postponed to Wednesday.

Matlala and his co-accused appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Monday. Proceedings were postponed to allow accused one, Musa Kekana's lawyer to come on record.

His newly appointed attorney failed to appear in court.

His legal team is requesting an order compelling the State to disclose certain witness statements, SANRAL CCTV footage, and police vehicle tracking records.

Matlala and his co-accused face 25 charges including 11 counts of attempted murder, conspiracy, fraud and money laundering. These are linked to three alleged shooting incidents between August 2022 and January 2024.

The State alleges that Matlala ordered hits on his ex-girlfriend Tebogo Thobejane, DJ Vettys, and Mpumalanga businessman Joe Sibanyoni between 2022 and 2024.

He is charged alongside his wife Tsakane Matlala, as well as Tiego Floyd Mabusela, Kekana and Nthabiseng Nzama.
