JOHANNESBURG - Six people have been shot dead and 18 others left injured after a shooting incident in the south of Johannesburg on Tuesday.
The incident happened on the R59 in Meyerton.
Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Fred Kekana, confirmed that those who have died are Lesotho nationals.
According to Kekana, the deceased were traveling in a bus from Johannesburg headed to Lesotho when they were intercepted by a car which started shooting at them unprovoked.
Kekana said the driver of the bus tried to escape, leaving the white vehicle to divert into a nearby bridge before fleeing the scene and hijacking another vehicle.
Officials who were driving in the area were alerted by a lady screaming for help resulting in a chase.
Three suspects were arrested.
