JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested a man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death in Orlando East, Soweto.
Jabulisile Josefina Chabalala was last seen on 7 August. Her body was discovered six days later in the back room where she had been living with her partner.
She had allegedly been stabbed to death, and her body was found covered with blankets and clothes.
A warrant of arrest for murder was issued for her 27-year-old boyfriend, Simisa Silomo Phakhathi.
He was arrested on Wednesday in the North West after his photograph was circulated online.
“Within four hours of SAPS releasing the suspect’s details, members of the Joubertina community provided critical information to the police after recognising him from his photograph, which had been widely circulated across TV, radio and social media,” SAPS said in a statement.
Phakhathi will now be transported back to Johannesburg, where he is expected to face a murder charge.
