JOHANNESBURG - Widespread veld fires have triggered power outages across the central and eastern suburbs of Johannesburg and Midrand.
Flames caused a major substation to trip.
Restoration of power to some areas has happened, but others are dependent on safety assessments and damage inspections.

City Power is urging residents to avoid starting fires near electricity infrastructure.
Winter blazes can damage the network, causing widespread outages and delaying restoration efforts.
The outages are affecting customers in the following areas;
