CAPE TOWN - Parliament’s Section 89 Impeachment Committee is expected to begin the process of appointing a new evidence leader following the removal of Advocate Thandazani Madonsela.
Madonsela’s appointment became the subject of a political and legal dispute after President Cyril Ramaphosa objected to his selection, citing concerns about a potential conflict of interest.
The dispute culminated in a vote in Parliament, with a majority of MPs supporting a motion to terminate Madonsela’s appointment.
The Economic Freedom Fighters has since taken Parliament to court, challenging the decision and alleging that the process amounted to an abuse of power.
The committee is now expected to move ahead with the process of selecting Madonsela’s replacement.
