JOHANNESBURG - Former Deputy President David Mabuza died in a Sandton hospital on Thursday, aged 64.
Mabuza was deputy president of South Africa from 2018 until 2023 and second in command of the ANC from 2017 to 2022.
He was also the premier of Mpumalanga from 2009 to 2018, throughout the presidency of his former political ally Jacob Zuma.
Mabuza played a pivotal kingmaker role at the December 2017 ANC Conference by backing Cyril Ramaphosa over Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma
