PRETORIA - Former Defence Minister and former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is expected back on the witness stand as her corruption trial continues.
Proceedings were cut short on Wednesday after Mapisa-Nqakula requested medical assistance. Her legal team told the court she was suffering from exhaustion following the lengthy proceedings.
It remains unclear whether she will be well enough to return to court on Thursday and complete her evidence-in-chief.
Once she has finished giving evidence, the State is expected to cross-examine her.
Mapisa-Nqakula faces allegations that she solicited bribes from defence contractor Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu.
She has pleaded not guilty and denies receiving any money from the businesswoman.
During her testimony, Mapisa-Nqakula told the court that renovations were carried out at her home to improve security after she received what she described as multiple threats to her life.
She did not provide details about the threats but told the court that the Department of Public Works contributed towards the cost of the renovations.
