JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water has lifted its precautionary water quality alert for Bezuidenhout Valley after tests confirmed that water samples collected in the area met the required quality standards.
The bulk water supplier had warned of possible water contamination following repairs to a damaged pipeline.
In a statement, Johannesburg Water said samples collected on 23 and 25 October from affected properties along 8th Avenue, at the corners of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Streets, complied with the required microbiological and chemical water quality standards.
“The precautionary water quality alert has therefore been lifted,” the utility said.

Johannesburg Water added that its technical team would arrange to restore the water supply to the affected properties as soon as practically possible.
“Customers in the affected properties may resume normal water use, including drinking, cooking and other household activities,” it said.
Residents have been advised to flush their internal plumbing systems by running their taps for a short while to clear any water that may have remained in the pipes during the period of concern.
