MELKBOSSTRAND - Western Cape rescue teams are on full alert to ensure people's safety over the holidays.
A variety of first responders have shown what they can do during a training exercise at the National Sea Rescue Institute base in Melkbosstrand.
This comes ahead of expected pressure on emergency services and hospitals from higher traffic volumes, water activities, alcohol use and violence.
Parental supervision and community involvement have been highlighted as ways to keep numbers down.
