'We will not vote to defend Dada Morero' -ActionSA

JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA has made it clear that it won’t be backing Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero.

This is as he faces a motion of no confidence in council on Wednesday.

The party’s national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, didn’t mince his words ahead of the two-day special council sitting brought forward by the Democratic Alliance.

Beaumont said they had already met with the ANC to explain why ActionSA won’t be defending Morero.

"We will not be voting to defend Dada Morero. We have come to the conclusion that service delivery in Johannesburg has collapsed, traffic lights are not working, and the streets are falling apart, the electricity outages and water stoppages are a lot.

"I am afraid that Johannesburg residents aspire for more leadership and ActionSA aspires to more," he said.

Beaumont emphasised that they have had a production working relationship with the ANC, especially in the City of Tshwane.

"The problem is Dada Morero and not the ANC... It's not an act of hostility towards the party, but it's the fact that ActionSA cannot vote to defend this mayor," he said.
