'Weather could disrupt N2 and N3' - KZN Cogta as province brace for heavy rainfall

JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal authorities warn that the N2 and N3 could be affected as heavy rains hit the province.

The SA Weather Service has issued orange level 6 and yellow level 4 warnings for parts of the province.

As a result, the Provincial Disaster Management Centre has activated an emergency Joint Operations Centre to respond to the anticipated devastation.

Spokesperson for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in KZN, Senzo Mzila, said that, in terms of the warning, the cold front, together with a cut-off low, is expected to bring heavy rainfall exceeding 80ml to parts of the province.

This, he said, increases the risk of flash flooding, damaging winds, hail and lightning-related incidents.

"MEC for Cogta immediate priority is the protection of communities in low lying areas of settlements located near rivers and streams... Disaster management will be closely monitoring these routes for any incidents.

Mzila said residents are urged to exercise extreme caution and follow all instructions issued by disaster management practitioners.”
