PRETORIA - There's outrage over the cutting of power to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.
The City of Tshwane disconnected it, believing it had debt of over R1-million.
It was part of the Ya Tima campaign which is aimed at cracking down on non-paying customers.
Gauteng Health committed to paying the outstanding amount and the hospital was reconnected, according to a statement by Tshwane mayor Nasiphi Moya.
The move has sparked widespread backlash with critics slamming it as inhumane, reckless and dangerous.
Weskoppies Hospital CEO Mokete Motaung said the hospital remains operational and patient care continues.
"The impact on the patients has been minimal," he said.
