Westbury: Calls to end gun violence as more killings reported

JOHANNESBURG - Westbury residents are calling for gun violence to end after four young people were killed on Saturday.

The community says shootings have continued, with more killings reported.

The killings come as Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Policing begins its inquiry into gang-related violence.

The Police Portfolio Committee is launching an inquiry into gang-related violence.

The move comes amid continued violence, despite the deployment of soldiers under Operation Prosper.

Victims, families, civil society and community groups will be given a chance to share their experiences and concerns.

The inquiry will also look at efforts to fight gang violence and what can be done.

Parliament says the focus is on practical solutions to make communities safer.
