WHO warns Ebola outbreak in DRC accelerating as cases double

JOHANNESBURG - The World Health Organisation warns the Ebola outbreak in DRC is spreading faster.

Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus says new infections have doubled over the past week.

The country has confirmed nearly 3,900 cases and over 1,700 deaths,
since the outbreak was declared in May.

The WHO is calling for a global response and better protection for frontline health workers.

Multiple potential vaccines and treatments continue to be tested.
