JOHANNESBURG - A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) inspector has been arrested in connection with the theft of R14.9 million worth of precious stones from a Killarney flat in 2023.
The official, had previously testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry as Witness K in camera.
Witness K admitted her role in the theft and outlined how the stones were to be seized unlawfully from the owner.

She also disclosed to the commission her romantic relationship with suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi.
The two met in 2022 and began dating later that year.
On Thursday, three suspects in the alleged theft of the precious stones case appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for the continuation of their bail application.

However, the State withdrew charges against one of the accused, businessman Etienne van der Walt
Van der Walt was arrested alongside EMPD officer Adrian MacKenzie and former EMPD officer Kersha-Leigh Stohls.
