BOKSBURG - ANC Northern Cape chair Zamani Saul has admitted that money still buys influence in the ANC.
This is despite the issue being raised and discussed at three consecutive conferences.
It resurfaced after NEC member Ronald Lamola threatened veteran Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma with legal action following allegations she made in a recent podcast.
He is demanding she withdraw allegations of vote-buying at the party's 2017 Elective Conference.
Dlamini-Zuma narrowly lost to Cyril Ramaphosa in that election.
"There is nothing new in that allegation. We have acknowledged that. Look at our resolutions on organisational renewal from the past three conferences. The role of money in shaping the politics of the African National Congress has been acknowledged," Saul said.
He said the party was trying to come up with ways of mitigating the impact of the use of money in the contestation of leadership.
"Nobody says money is not being used. Three ANC conferences in a row have acknowledged that there is use of money to influence the leadership race."
