JOHANNESBURG - Truth and Reconciliation Inquiry chair Judge Sisi Khampepe has dismissed former presidents Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki’s application for her recusal.
She argues in court papers that the work of the inquiry has been beset by a number of delays.
Zuma wants Khampepe to step aside, citing bias.
Mbeki, meanwhile, says Khampepe’s historical past with the TRC and National Prosecuting Authority compromises her.
President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission of inquiry in May 2025 to investigate claims of political interference in the prosecution of apartheid-era crimes.
