MNAMBITHI - The Alfred Duma Local Municipality has been awarded the Top Excellent Municipality Award.
The municipality, which was formed through the merger of the uMnambithi-Ladysmith and Indaka municipalities, walked away with a R1.5-million cash prize.
Mayor Zama Sibisi said the funds will go a long way in supporting further development in the municipality.
"We are grateful to our administrators, as they are our implementing agents," said Sibisi.
Despite the recognition, Sibisi said there was still much more to be done in the predominantly rural municipality.
