DURBAN - Thousands of matriculants began writing their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, inmates sitting their matric exams at Usethubeni School at Westville Correctional Centre received messages of support from National Commissioner of Correctional Services Makgothi Thobakgale.

The school was officially opened in 2013 to give young inmates, including those classified as juveniles, the opportunity to continue their education and write their matric examinations while incarcerated.
The correctional centre’s school has achieved a 100% matric pass rate, a record officials hope to maintain.
Thobakgale encouraged the inmates to remain focused on their studies, saying education could help them build a better future after their release from prison.
