JOHANNESBURG - As the end of year beckons, holidaymakers will be heading to the coast in their numbers.
But many South African beaches leave a lot to be desired.
There have been concerns over issue of the high levels of E-coli in the beaches.
Efforts by local communities clean them up and run conservation awareness campaigns have been underway, however there is still a lot of work needed to protect collective natural treasures.

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town councillor, Paul Jacobson, says the city's beaches still have high levels of E-Coli.
He alleged that people are falling after swimming at the beaches.
In East London ringing sea levels and coastal decay have threatened beaches.
