JOHANNESBURG - This year marks 70 years since the 1956 women's march.
It was one of the largest demonstrations in the country's history.
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation honoured the 20,000 women who participated in the mass action against apartheid pass laws.
The event began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the graves of struggle stalwarts Lilian Ngoyi and Helen Joseph.
They also visited the graves of Rahima Moosa and Albertina Sisulu.
Several issues affecting women today were raised.
Many women view the 1956 March as a powerful blueprint for modern activism, bridging past sacrifices with ongoing battles for safety, economic equality, and representation.
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is appealing to the public to help find and identify the ordinary women who took part in the historic 1956 Women's March.
So far, over 90 names have been recorded through families and community submissions.
