MARIKANA, NW - It's 13-years since the Marikana Massacre and residents say nothing has changed.
In fact, the situation is getting more desperate for them, despite many promises made.
34 striking mineworkers were shot and killed by police during a wage protest, at Lonmin's Platinum mine in August 2012.

And since then, the living conditions for mineworkers and their families remain largely unchanged. Key issues still facing the community include inadequate housing, lack of basic services, slow justice, and overall unfulfilled promises.
As years go by, the hope and light once promised to the residents of Marikana and the mineworkers gradually fade, giving way to deeper darkness and despair among these people.
