2024 elections | IEC makes submissions to court on MK registration

JOHANNESBURG - The ANC has asked the IEC to reverse the registration of the new MK party.

At the same time it's taken the party to court over a trademark dispute.

Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo says the IEC has made submissions on the matter.

"The IEC has placed in court the affidavit explaining the circumstances that led to the MK's registration.

"We do hope that once it has considered all the evidence before it, it will make a call," he said.

Mamabolo is dismissing claims of bias by political parties.

Former President Jacob Zuma, who is campaigning for the MK party, accused the IEC of favouring the ANC.

Mamabolo says anyone with evidence can approach the electoral court.

"If you feel that any senior member or comissioner is behaving in an ill way you must go the electoral court to complain," he said.

"There are mechanisms to ventilate whatever you have. It is not for you to take to the podium and cast aspersions and create a negative atmosphere in which an election happens."
