2024 elections | Warnings against spreading misleading information

JOHANNESBURG - The Film and Publication Board says it's on high alert for any misinformation that’s peddled on public platforms ahead of and during elections on 29 May. 

It adds public education will be vital in the run-up.

The Board says those caught spreading misleading and false information on these platforms could be liable for a fine of R150,000 or a two-year prison term. 

The IEC, as well as the publication body, say they’ll be educating young people on the importance of sharing credible and factual information.
