58-hour water outage planned for large parts of Joburg

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water says there will be a 58-hour planned shutdown next week.

Over 100 areas will be affected from 20 June.

This is to facilitate repairs at the Eikenhof pump station.

Meanwhile, R3-billion has been allocated to fix water infrastructure in Johannesburg.

Residents reached boiling point after a series of recent water cuts, some for nearly a week.

Soweto residents resorted to violent protests after the Eikenhof pump station went down.

Meanwhile, the city has approved tariff hikes for water, sanitation, electricity and property rates.
