CAPE TOWN - ActionSA and the Democratic Alliance have unveiled Dereleen James and Geordin Hill-Lewis as their mayoral candidates for Cape Town, respectively.
Hill-Lewis pledged to tackle crime in Cape Town, promising residents they should always feel safe.
He said the party’s plan centres on boosting safety and preventing crime across the city.
“We cannot wait for SAPS to beat crime. The only way that we will beat crime and live without fear is if we build our own police capacity. And you know we have fought every day to get the powers we need,” Hill-Lewis said.
James said safety was her number one priority.
“When we have unsafe communities, we cannot have investment in our communities.
“So we need to ensure our communities are safe. And we have got quite a few pillars under safety.
“We will be launching these pillars in the next couple of months. Safety is our priority number one. To deal with this unaffordable city is nommer twee.
“You shouldn't have to choose between electricity and food. Service delivery. Die paaie is donker hier op die Cape Flats. So I'm saying to you, drug addiction and gangsterism thrive in a community waar daar nie electricity is nie. So yes, service delivery is of key importance."
