Activists want undocumented migrants repatriated

ROBERTSON - A Zimbabwean civic movement has called for the repatriation of 200 undocumented migrants detained from Robertson, Western Cape.

Activist Lovemore Maphorisa said the group is struggling to access adequate food and medication while in police custody.

“Now we are pleading with the government, at least if they can be deported, if they can have some other options that they can give us, something like self-deportation or something like that, because the way they are kept in prison now, most of them, they paid their fines, but still, they are in custody.

“Most of them, are breed winners. They were also crying in terms of food, quantities of food. They were getting one meal per day, sometimes two meals per day, and some of them are on medication. They were pleading if at least they can also have food. And most of the times we bring food for them. But there are some police stations where sometimes we get challenges when we try to,” he said.
