JOHANNESBURG - The ANC could emerge as the biggest loser in this year's municipal elections.
This is the view is political strategist Brutus Malada.
He said the party’s declining support could leave it with less influence across key metros and this could push it into a weakened position ahead of the 2029 elections.
“ANC will be the big loser in this. The trend is clear. It's clear that they are losing at a margin of 10 to 12 percent and that will actually mean the end of the ANC and it will become lame duck for this period in between the two elections.
“That it will sit, it will be a national government President Ramaphosa sitting in Tshwane. The Union Buildings which is led by another party and in Cape Town which is the legislative arm of the state which is led by the DA.
“So here is a political party that is running the country as the head of the State but it has no control of the economy hub, it has no control of administrative hub, it has no control of legislative hub,” Malada said.
