JOHANNESBURG - ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has delivered a clear warning that corrupt members are on their own.
“No one in the ANC has a mandate to be corrupt. Any member caught in corruption stands alone, outside our values, outside our discipline,” Mbalula told reporters on Thursday, following the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
Corruption was front and centre at the briefing, with the Madlanga Commission’s explosive testimony under the spotlight.
The commission has, over the past three weeks, implicated top figures, including Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and former Police Minister Bheki Cele.
Mbalula made it clear: the ANC will not shield any member facing allegations of corruption. “No member implicated in corruption will be supported by the ANC. They will step aside from their duties and their membership,” he said.
He singled out North West businessman Brown Mogotsi, who has been linked to a membership funding scandal and alleged criminal underworld boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, saying, “If he’s an ANC member, he’s a disgrace. We won’t associate with people like that.”
Mbalula stressed that the ANC cannot take pride in such individuals, adding that “If found guilty, they must face the full force of the law”.
