JOHANNESBURG - The ANC leadership is gathered for the party's first National General Council in 10 years.
It's a key mid-term review for the party, where members assess progress and confront internal and national challenges.
eNCA spoke with ANC NEC member Donald Selamolela who said the NEC is focused on renewal and how the party will move forward.
Selamolela said, "the whole of today and tomorrow, we'll be dealing with that - the political report of the president is one that has set a tone and elevated debates and asked very serious questions that we have to ask ourselves as we go to reflections."
"That's what is going to be happening now and that will be continuing tomorrow, in terms of discussions in the commissions on those particular issues that emerged from the base documents centrally around the question of renewal."
If the ANC can demonstrably renew itself, then public attitudes toward the movement could shift from cynicism to cautious optimism.
We have to earn that trust through actions, not words.
