Angry parents shut down ‘crumbling’ Thembisa school

JOHANNESBURG - Angry parents have shut down Dulcie September Primary School in Thembisa. They are demanding urgent intervention from the Department of Education over the school’s dilapidated infrastructure.

The parents vowed that the school would not function until the provincial Education Department provided temporary mobile units.

A parent who spoke to eNCA said numerous requests for intervention had been ignored.

“A school was promised to the community but until today, it has not been delivered,” the parent said.

The parents stated that the school building posed a health and safety hazard to pupils and teachers.

“This school is crumbling and its none compliant. The situation here is dire. There is pest infestation, the toilets are a health hazard and the classrooms are falling apart. We want the MEC to come and fix the mess of the department," the parent added.

A comment from the Department of Education will be added once received.
