Arson suspected in Riverlea High School fire

JOHANNESBURG - The high levels of crime in Riverlea, like in many areas across South Africa,
are a longstanding problem.

Several anti-crime programmes have been put in place in the community, to battle rampant violence and gangsterism. And yet wrongdoing continues.

Now, Riverlea is confronted with what some residents suspect is an arson attack on their high school.

The fire gutted 11 classrooms, four of which were used by Grade 8 pupils.

When the pupils return to school on the 5th of May they will be placed in mobile classrooms.

All that’s left from Sunday evening's fire is shattered glasses and rubble, after a large section of the structure was destroyed by the blaze.
