SOWETO - With just over a week to go before the local government elections, political parties are intensifying their campaigns.
The African Transformation Movement held a rally at Orlando Community Hall in Soweto today.
The party is backing its parliamentary leader, Vuyo Zungula, as its mayoral candidate for Johannesburg.
Zungula has pledged to tackle lawlessness and inequality.
The party has also left the door open to coalition talks, saying community interests must come first.
Zungula faces a competitive mayoral race, with the DA’s Helen Zille, ActionSA's Herman Mashaba and the MK Party’s Bongani Bhaloyi among those also vying for the city of gold's top job.
