bakubung Demands yet to be met

JOHANNESBURG - The underground strike at the Bakubung Platinum Mine in Rustenburg, North West has been called off.

NUM says the mine has committed to resolving all demands as soon as possible.

Over 200 miners staged a sit-in on Wednesday, demanding pay hikes and maternity policy revisions.

"We must be frank on this one. The reason this is happening is because it's a Chinese-owned mine and they don't respect any legal laws of this country," said NUM Regional Secretary Geoffrey Moatshe.

"We're going to fight this up until they comply with the law.

"At the end of the meeting there was a commitment from the employer that issues that were raised are going to be addressed."
