PRETORIA - Thabo Bester has launched an access to information application in the High Court in Pretoria.
He wants access to Justice Minister Ronald Lamola's cellphone records and documents from the presidency and crime intelligence.
Bester, his alleged partner in crime, Nandipha Magudumana and five others appeared in the Free State high court for a pre trial sitting.
Adv. Moafrika Maila, Bester's Lawyer, argues that the documents they are seeking are crucial for Bester's legal team as they prepare their defence.
"Access to information application has got direct impact to this trial because we have documents, classified information that we want to prepare for our defence. That will include some documents that are in possession of the President of the Republic of South Africa, that will include the phone reports of one of some of the politicians, I can name Mr Ronald Lamola, that will include also some of the classified information of national intelligence."
Bester has launched several applications. He wants to be reclassified as an awaiting trial prisoner. And is also demanding access to a laptop and classified information.
