MOSSEL BAY, Western Cape - The wildfire that tore through parts of Mossel Bay is under control, though firefighters are still responding to flare-ups.
Early assessments suggest at least 1,800 hectares of vegetation have been destroyed.
Homes in areas including Island View, Vakansieplaas and Aalwyndal have been damaged.
Meanwhile, strong winds continue to fuel the Pearly Beach fire, which has now jumped the R43 near Gansbaai
The spread of the wildfire has prompted road closures and warnings for residents to prepare for a possible evacuation.
No fatalities have been reported as yet.
Officials say two privately owned houses were destroyed.
