BMA sees improvement following introduction of new passport stamps

It comes after it uncovered passports being fraudulently stamped. The new stamps have improved security measures.

The authority is also partnering with Eswatini to curb illegal crossings.

Border Management Authority CEO Dr Mike Masiapato says some people have been able to enter South Africa using illicit stamps.

"The issue of the utilisation of what you will call as illicit stamps, to stamp people illegally and allow them in the jurisdiction. That has been the biggest challenge we have been dealing with, and that one has been problematic because when the passport has been stamped, you will then assume that the person is in the county legally."

"We agreed that we need to improve on our stamps and make sure we are able to implement highly sophisticated stamps with serious security features," Masiapato explained
