JOHANNESBURG - The Board of Healthcare Funders is calling for reforms to improve affordability across the healthcare system.
The organisation marks its 25th Annual Conference in Cape Town. The gathering brings together healthcare funders, regulators, policymakers, medical schemes and economists from across Southern Africa.
Board of Healthcare Funders managing director Katlego Mothudi said there are many interventions available.
“We definitely have to do maybe less talking and start looking at specific reform areas.
“I've already mentioned that we have to leverage technology and what technology does is that it also tries to circumvent some of the challenges that we have in terms of workforce deficiencies, the availability of practitioners and those services that can afford these challenges.
“There are other innovative models that have been planted around the role of voluntary health insurance and micro-insurance in making sure that we start offering maybe even pared-down models of healthcare that can assist people in accessing healthcare in the private sector.
