FICKSBURG - The Border Management Authority says border infrastructure is falling apart.
However, the BMA says it's working with the private sector to redesign ports of entry.
"Infrastructure around our ports is very much bad. I think that is one thing that we can all accept," said Border Management Authority Commissioner Michael Masiapato.
"It is for that reason why as a country we moved towards the development of a PPP, that is the public-private partnership, which we started some time back to make sure that we have some kind of partnership with the private sector to have the ports redesigned, redeveloped, to make sure that they are opened up for us to be able to process, for example, pedestrians on one end, but also be able to process buses in one end, small vehicles in one end, but also be able to process trucks in one end."
Meanwhile, this is the busiest time for the Border Management Authority.
It's conducted an intensified law enforcement operation at the Ficksburg border post in the Free Sate.
"As the Border Management Authority. This is one of our, you know, our busiest time. So in this particular period, we have everybody actually on duty. Nobody's on rest days," Masiapato said.
